The Revised Translation of the Roman Missal has brought about a great occasion to reflect on what we are doing and saying at Mass. The Office of Communications of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, has announced the airing of a special two-part series on the implementation of the third edition of the Roman Missal. The program airs on Rhode Island Catholic Hour, Tuesday, November 15 and Tuesday, November 22 at 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m., on Cox channel 14, Verizon channel 33 and Full Channel 14.

Go here to see the RI Catholic Hour – New Roman Missal

Msgr. Anthony Mancini, rector of the Cathedral of SS. Peter and Paul, discuss in depth the changes of the Mass with Father Jeremy Rodrigues, assistant pastor of St. Philip parish in Greenville.

The changes recapture the sacredness of the Mass and the meaning of the Liturgy. “The Eucharist is at the very center of the Church’s life because at Mass, Christ is really and truly present among us in word and Sacrament. Therefore it is fitting that we celebrate the Liturgy with dignity and devotion,” said Msgr. Mancini.

“The new translation of the Roman Missal affords us the opportunity to reinvigorate our communal worship of God. In the Liturgy we encounter God in a most profound and real way that no other event on earth can equal,” said Father Rodrigues.

“Therefore what we say and do during Mass should always be understood from the perspective that we come first to give of ourselves to God who in turn seeks to share his Divine life with us.”

In an effort to help the faithful adjust to the upcoming changes beginning November 27, the new Eucharistic prayers will be recited by several diocesan priests on both programs.

This program was produced by the diocesan Office of Communications with partial funding from donations to the annual Catholic Communication Campaign collection.

During the month of August, Renewal Ministries sent our pastor, Father Frank and our parishioner, Mr. Donald Turbitt to Vietnam to preach and teach for one week each in 3 dioceses around Hanoi. They ministered to priests, religious, seminarians, and lay Catholics in order to open a deeper relationship with Christ in their lives.

Vietnam is a Communist country, yet there are six million Roman Catholics there, representing 8% of the population, who are hungry to know more about God from the free world. Father Frank and Don taught and prayed with these people from August 1 to August 23. By keeping them in your prayers, asking the Holy Spirit to inspire and strengthen them, our Blessed Mother to protect them, and the angels and saints to surround them in safety and peace, Father Frank and Don returned home inspired, filled, and in good health!
