The 5:30 PM will be offered in Church and the Christmas Concert that precedes the Mass at Night (10 PM again this year) will begin at 9:30 PM. CHRISTMAS DAY … we have 3 morning Masses (8 AM, 9:30 AM, 11 AM) and no 6 PM evening Mass on Christmas Day itself!

Two Mass Obligations on

December 23/24 and

December 24/25 ...

Because Christmas falls on Monday this year, we have 2 Mass obligations to fulfill ... the first, for the 4th Sunday of Advent which is Saturday evening - December 23 at 4 PM or Sunday morning - December 24 at 8 AM, 9:30 AM, or 11:30 AM.

The Christmas obligation is fulfilled by participating at one of the Christmas Eve or Christmas Day Masses: Christmas Eve at 4 PM, 5:30 PM or 10 PM; Christmas Day at 8 AM, 9:30 AM, and 11 AM.

Please note: on Christmas Day itself, our LAST MASS for Christmas is 11 AM, not 11:30 AM!

Lessons and Carols

A Celebration of

"Lessons & Carols" ...

will be held in our Church on Sunday - December 10 at 2 PM. The afternoon will consist of a prayerful service of nine "lessons" (readings taken from the Sacred Scriptures) and carols sung by the Saint Philip Adult Choir, the Saint Philip Teen Choir, and the Saint Philip School Chorus as well as Christmas Carols sung by the congregation. The Choirs will be under the direction of Mr. Kenneth Camara and Mrs. Melissa Roberts; Father Ryan Simas will be the organist for parts of the service; Father Frank will preside. The Service is expected to last about 1 hour ... please set some time aside for this beautiful tradition in the Church, a wonderful and graceful way to prepare ourselves for the awesome Solemnity of the Lord's Birth at Christmas. Admission is free and all are welcome ... come, and bring a family member and friend!

The Refugee Crisis: A Catholic Response?

The Refugee Crisis: A Catholic Response?

What is our response as Roman Catholics to be to the enormous problem of refugees? Is there a "Catholic response"?

Recently Mark Mallett, a noted Catholic evangelist, author, and speaker wrote an excellent piece entitled A Catholic Answer to the Refugee Crisis. The article is excellent. It's too long to publish in our Parish bulletin in its entirety but the link to the article is posted below.

Read it ... it covers the following essential points:

  • the "why" behind the crisis ... what caused it?
  • the differences and disagreements in the Muslim sects of Islam ... the Sunnis and the Shiites;
  • Islamic ideology and Sharia law;
  • quotes from Pope Saint John Paul II, Pope Benedict XVI, and Pope Francis;
  • the importance of the role of Our Lady.
